The Communications Associate will join the Communications Team at RMN and will assist that team in a variety of ways, including research, online media gathering and tracking, as well as helping to organize the media archive. They will also be responsible for content management for the RMN blog and all social media channels. The Communications Associate position requires strong technical skills especially in web development and marketing. In addition, the Communications Associate position requires exceptional organizing skills, excellent communication skills both written and oral, up-to-date software and internet skills, and interpersonal skills of genuine hospitality with a service orientation. Further, the position requires a positive, professional demeanor, in the face of regularly shifting priorities, as well as a willingness to step up to do whatever is required with a willingness to share ideas. Lastly, the position requires passion for justice work on behalf of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer persons and advocates in the context of United Methodism.

Media Relations Coordinator — Marj Halperin Consulting, Inc. — Chicago, IL

Marj Halperin Consulting (MHC) is looking for a Media Relations Coordinator to work on a contract basis, between 25 and 30 hours per week, for a period of 12 weeks (with the potential to extend the assignment) starting immediately. Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of communications experience, ideally honed at a public relations agency or within a news organization. Of that experience, the majority of the candidate’s productivity should be comprised of media relations work – activity pitching to, responding to and refining relationships with news media, with an emphasis on Chicago-area news media. Candidates must have hands-on experience with social media platforms, specifically Facebook™, Twitter™ and Instagram™. Candidates must be strong writers with proven experience crafting error-free press releases, media alerts and advisories, and photo captions. Along with writing skills, strong organizational and verbal skills are required.

Director of Education — 826CHI — Chicago, Il

826CHI is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students. The Director of Education oversees all educational programming at 826CHI, This includes the strategic direction, planning, execution, and evaluation of all student-centered programming. The Director of Education is second in command to the Executive Director, managing and mentoring program staff and interns to ensure the high quality of educational programming provided to students, teachers, and families. In addition to often working directly with students, the Director of Education also manages, with the support of the Volunteer Coordinator, all volunteers who facilitate programming. Along with teaching experience, we seek someone with a proven passion for writing, teaching, and learning, exhibited through a documented involvement in teaching writing. This person is a skilled communicator (to all ages and all levels of learners), is flexible with his/her schedule (this position requires some evening and weekend availability), is engaging creative, and dedicated. The successful candidate will exhibit an attitude that is equal parts can-do and can-inspire-others-to-do, and will have put this attitude to the test already while managing others.

Editorial Assistant — Fourth Presbyterian Church — Chicago, IL

The Editorial Assistant is responsible for helping to proofread, edit, format, and manage production of the many publications of Fourth Presbyterian Church as well as helping to write material for the church website and electronic newsletters. Resonsibilities include proofreading and editing both content and layout for newsletters, Sunday bulletins, and brochures; maintaining website pages and calendar information that feeds into the website; and assisting with other digital media, from information kiosk displays to social media outlets. He/she is responsible for cultivating relations and conducting all duties in the spirit of the church’s continuing mission.
